Following the success of The Haunting of Hill Home and The Haunting of Bly Manor, horror director Mike Flanagan’s relationship with Netflix continues with Midnight Mass. The seven-episode sequence takes place on Crockett Island, “an remoted island neighborhood that experiences miraculous occasions — and scary omens – following the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious younger priest,” in keeping with the streamer. It stars Kate Siegel, Zach Gilford (Saracen from Friday Night time Lights!), Hamish Linklater, and Annabeth Gish.
“I’m simply going to confess it… Midnight Mass is my favourite challenge thus far,” Flanagan wrote in a letter launched with a cryptic teaser. “As a former altar boy, about to have a good time three years of sobriety, it’s not needed to see what makes this so private. The concepts on the root of this present scare me to my core. There may be darkness at work on Crockett Island. A few of it’s is supernatural, however the scariest is born of human nature. The darkness that animates this story isn’t exhausting to see in our personal world, sadly. However this present is about one thing else as effectively… religion itself. One of many nice mysteries of human nature. How even within the darkness, within the worst of it, within the absence of sunshine – and hope — we sing. I hope you get pleasure from our music.” In different phrases, Midnight Mass seems creepy as hell.
Midnight Mass premieres on September 24.
